The Port of Tacoma’s Washington Union Terminal, a container terminal where Grand Alliance ships call, was shut down Tuesday morning after retired longshore workers began picketing the facility on Port of Tacoma Road.
Details of those workers’ issues weren’t clear early today, but Port of Tacoma spokeswoman Tara Mattina said she understands those retirees are upset by recent benefit changes imposed by the Pacific Maritime Association. The PMA represents terminal operators, shipping lines and other businesses in contracts with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union.
