Container volume declined by some 30 percent in March at the Port of Seattle bringing the year-to-date container traffic down by 19.1 percent, the Port of Seattle reported Monday.
That decline, said the Seattle port, reflects to move of the Grand Alliance container group to Tacoma from Seattle last year.
Tacoma last week reported its container traffic was up 37 percent for the year due in part to that shift.
The Port of Seattle noted that without counting the effect of the Grand Alliance’s move, Seattle’s port would have seen its container traffic increase by 2.5 percent through March.
